What is Qi Gong?

Qi Gong, pronounced “Chi Gong” means “Energy Skill”.

It is a traditional Chinese system of cultivating vital Energy (qì [æ°£]) through mindful movements and coordinated breathing. Many individual movements or sets of movements exist as this practice originated thousands of years ago and evolved through the ages, with many lineages and styles still taught worldwide to this day.

The term "Qi Gong" serves as a broad category for various movement practices that promote both physical and psychological well-being. Some movement sets are quite dynamic, emphasizing strength, mobility, and endurance. Conversely, others are slow and nearly stationary, featuring prolonged postures that concentrate on alignment, relaxation, breath, and mindfulness.

"Flexibility training increases our capacity;

Strength training builds up our capability;

Together they are at the heart of Kung Fu practice as much as the foundation for a healthy body.

Strengthening the external creates room for the internal."

Ba Duan Jin – "8 Brocades" Qi Gong

Radha’s movement practice is rooted in the traditional Shaolin arts (Chinese martial arts) as well as Gymnastic Strength Training (GST) and Hatha Yoga.

GST has played an integral role in Radha’s understanding of alignment, mobility, strength and flexibility training, and has provided her with guidance during injury recovery and support in her other movement practices.

In martial arts training, comprising of Shaolin Kung Fu and Qi Gong, Radha found her true passion, which has led her through 6 years of focused study and practice in these Chinese martial arts with Master Yan Xin (KungFu.Life).

For Radha, the combination of physical training and Kung Fu wisdom not only strengthens the body, but also sharpens and calms the mind - benefits that often carry into everyday life. Exploring movements, breath, wisdom, beauty, will power, strength and flexibility inherent to the Shaolin arts, remains an ongoing journey of learning for her and a deep fascination that she loves to share and teach with great joy.

“Movement, has always been an integral part of my life and continues to shape how I show up in the world.”
